ROME, Ga. | The Young Harris College Mountain Lions saw their seven-game winning streak snapped on Monday evening (Jan. 19) as Shorter University held off a late fourth-quarter push to claim a 56–50 Conference Carolinas victory at the Winthrop-King Centre.
Young Harris battled back after trailing by as many as 15 points, outscoring the Hawks 27–22 in the fourth quarter, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. The Mountain Lions drop to 12–5 overall and 6–3 in Conference Carolinas play, while Shorter improves to 9–7 overall and 7–2 in the league.
Kamryn Bates delivered a standout performance for Young Harris, pouring in a game-high 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting while adding six rebounds in 38 minutes of action.
Shorter built its advantage early, holding Young Harris to just five points in the opening quarter before carrying a 26–17 lead into halftime. The Hawks maintained control through three quarters before the Mountain Lions made their late surge.

• Kamryn Bates led all scorers with 26 points, shooting 10-of-18 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 at the free-throw line.
• Rhiannon Saller pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds while scoring six points.

• The Mountain Lions shot 33.3 percent (17-for-51) from the field.
• Young Harris outscored Shorter 27–22 in the high flying fourth quarter while knocking down four three-pointers in the final frame.
• Shorter was led by Chelsy Singleton, who finished with 18 points, while Amiya Redus added 10 points.
• Young Harris finished 12-of-15 (80.0 percent) from the free-throw line, compared to Shorter's 14-of-24 effort.
