YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Mountain Lions Men's Lacrosse program is proud to announce the addition of Jake Payne to its coaching staff as an Assistant Coach, Head Coach Branden Geldart recently announced.

"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the Young Harris Men's Lacrosse program as the assistant coach! I look forward to working alongside Coach Geldart to build a culture of excellence. Helping student-athletes grow and succeed is something I'm very passionate about, and I know Young Harris is the perfect place to make an impact. I truly appreciate Aaron Bessey and Branden Geldart in trusting that I can bring a positive change to the program and welcoming me into the Mountain Lion family. I can't wait to get started!" said Payne.

Jake, a native of Watkinsville, Georgia, brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the Mountain Lions. He played as a midfielder throughout his career, beginning with the Oconee County Knights Lacrosse Club (2013–2017). He then played for Oconee County High School in their inaugural season, where he earned MVP honors and served as team captain during his senior year; he was also a Beta Club and FFA member. Payne continued his playing career at Point University (2018–2021), where he was recognized with the AAC Champions of Character Award, and later at Huntingdon College (2021–2024), earning his bachelor's degree in Sports Management.

His coaching journey began with the Hog Mountaineers in Bogart, Georgia, where he served as a high school assistant coach and middle school head coach. He was responsible for offensive strategy, practice planning, game preparation, and scouting. Most recently, Payne coached at St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, North Carolina, where he held the role of Graduate Assistant and eventually Interim Head Coach. There, he managed team finances, led recruiting efforts, developed game strategies, organized travel itineraries, ran team study halls, and created workout plans.

Payne's lacrosse background and commitment to student-athlete development make him a valuable addition to the Mountain Lions coaching staff. The Mountain Lions men's lacrosse team now has three assistant coaches on staff, in preparation for their 2026 campaign.
