YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College proudly celebrates Mountain Lion alumnus Ben Soenen, who was selected 23rd overall in the second round of the 2025 National Lacrosse League Draft by the Las Vegas Desert Dogs. A four-year standout defender for the Mountain Lions from 2022 to 2025, Soenen made his mark with 62 appearances, 60 starts, 16 career points, 257 ground balls, and 166 caused turnovers. His senior season saw a breakout performance with 7 goals and 4 assists, earning him a shooting percentage of .500.

Soenen's collegiate career was decorated with numerous honors, including Conference Carolinas First Team Defender in 2025 and 2024, Peach Belt Conference First Team Defender in 2022 and 2023, CSC Academic All-District recognition, and inclusion on both the PBC Honor Roll and Presidential Honor Roll. His leadership and consistency on the field helped elevate the Mountain Lions' defensive unit throughout his tenure.

Reflecting on his time at Young Harris, Soenen shared, "Being part of the Mountain Lion family has been an amazing experience that I will always value. Over the past four years, I improved my lacrosse skills, both as an individual and a team player. The Mountain Lion coaches and players provided an environment for me to develop as a lacrosse player and a human being. I felt encouraged to work hard and improve every day, both on and off the field. As I move on to the next chapter of my lacrosse life in Las Vegas, I'll carry those lessons with me and never forget the opportunity that I was given in the Enchanted Valley."

Head Coach Branden Geldart expressed his pride in Soenen's achievement, stating, "We are very proud of one of our newest alumni Ben Soenen after being drafted into the NLL! Ben was drafted 23rd overall and was the 2nd highest draftee that played D2 this year. We knew he had a strong chance especially after setting multiple records during his time at YHC and as a consistent standout for the New Westminster Salmonbellies. Ben is the 4th alumni from Young Harris to make it to the NLL and we are very excited to watch his career continue with the Las Vegas Desert Dogs!"

Las Vegas Desert Dogs Defensive Coordinator Curtis Hodgson added, "I am excited to have the opportunity to coach and develop a player with Ben's athleticism, skill, and strength, in Las Vegas. He is the type of player we feel that fits into the type of identity we want to create and build for our team."

From locking down opponents in the Enchanted Valley to stepping onto the professional stage, Ben Soenen's journey is just beginning. Young Harris College looks forward to watching his continued success in the NLL.
