Mountain Lions Knock Off Hawks 68-61 Behind Incredible Team Performance

Young Harris executed the game plan to perfection to take down Conference Carolinas KPI leader, Chowan, 68-61.

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. Young Harris executed the game plan to perfection to take down Conference Carolinas KPI leader, Chowan, 68-61 (Feb 24th). Evidently, the Mountain Lions' intentions were to eliminate any post play from the Hawks. The Mountain Lions were going to force the Hawks to beat them by shooting the ball, and for a while it looked like that could have happened. Chowan came into this match up making 3.47 threes per game as a team. Tonight, they knocked down 10, which was a recipe for disaster when you look at how Young Harris intended to win this game. However, down the stretch it was the Mountain Lions who knocked down clutch threes and forced key turnovers to defeat the Hawks.

The Mountain Lions advance to 19-8 overall and are 13-6 in Conference Carolinas. The Hawks move to 18-4 overall and are 15-4 in Conference Carolinas.

YH will now await final seeding for the Conference Carolinas tournament with the regular season wrapping up this week. Young Harris may have an opportunity to host post season play in The Harp Recreation and Commencement Center.

QUOTING HEAD COACH LINDSEY HUFFMAN:
"This game was awesome. We really settled into things in the 4th quarter. We were not clicking to start, but getting stops and trusting each other was the key to this win."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
·      The Mountain Lions were led by Ivona Miljanic's 17 points on 6-13 from the field.
·      Parehuia Delamere put up an incredible performance.  She nearly posted a triple double as she pulled down 13 rebounds, dished out eight assists to zero turnovers, and scored eight points. Not to mention her four steals, including two in the final minute to put the dagger in the Hawks.
·      The Mountain Lions offense was poetic, as they dished out 17 assists while only turning it over seven times. To make this even more impressive, Chowan came into this game second in Conference Carolinas averaging 11.62 steals per game; Tonight, they had zero.
·      Young Harris forced Chowan into 17 turnovers and converted those forced turnovers into 15 fast break points.
·      Both teams shot well from the three-point line, with the Hawks shooting 41.7% while the Mountain Lions countered at 41.4%
·      Chowan's bright spot was their 32 bench points.
·      Alexandria James-Fearon led the Hawks with 15 points.

UP NEXT: The Mountain Lions hit the road this Wednesday, February 26th where they will take on Erskine at 5PM.
