GREENVILLE, S.C. | Alexis Scarpinato and
Zachary Murray are finalists for Female/Male Conference Athlete of the Year.
In her second season, Scarpinato piled onto the stat sheet. Scarpinato started in 17 of her 18 appearances and logged 1,380 minutes on the pitch. She notched a team-high 11 goals in 2023 and added four assists for 26 points. Scarpinato scored game winning goals against Emmanuel, Erskine, and Southern Wesleyan. Scarpinato's stellar season earned her Second Team All-Conference Honors.
Senior Ace Zach Murray had a tremendous season on the mound for the Mountain Lions. He had 15 starts in 16 appearances and threw 101 innings. Murray finished the season 9-2 with a 3.21 ERA and recorded 99 strikeouts.
Murray's dominance earned him Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the year and a first team selection. He also garnered D2CCA Pitcher of the Year and All-Region First team honors. Finally, Zach won NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the year.
The Female/Male Athlete of the Year Award is awarded to the most outstanding female/male student-athlete for the year in the league. Per Directors of Athletics vote, nominations will be accepted from member institutions to only include conference-sponsored sports and all nomination information, statistics and accomplishments are solely based on athletically-related criteria.
The winner of the 2023-24 Conference Carolinas Female Athlete of the Year will be unveiled at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10
th followed by the Male Athlete of the Year announcement at noon.
