DAHLONEGA, Ga. | Young Harris College scored three runs in the first three innings and made them stand up as the 30th-ranked Mountain Lions claimed a 3-1 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over their Blood Mountain rivals University of North Georgia Friday (Feb. 24) afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.
The Mountain Lions improved to 10-3 overall and to 4-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Nighthawks fell to 4-6 and 0-4. Game two of the series is at 1 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 25).
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The Mountain Lions pushed across a run in the top of the first without a benefit of a hit. Ethan Underwood led off and was hit by a pitch. Underwood moved over to second base on a wild pitch and then to third on a fielder's choice. Underwood later scored when Marco Colina hit into a double play.
- YHC made it 3-0 on Underwood's two-run homer in the third after James Basham reached base on a throwing error. It was Underwood's first home run of 2023.
- The Mountain Lions only collected three hits against four UNG pitchers. Jarrett Ford and Rome Wallace each posted singles.
- Nate Lamb (3-0) earned the win with six scoreless innings. Lamb limited the Nighthawk offense to just three hits and a walk while he registered eight strikeouts.
- Dylan Beck earned his first save as he recorded the final two outs on flyouts after he entered the game with two Nighthawks on base in the bottom of the ninth.
