YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College baseball team fell to the University of North Georgia 10-8 in Sunday (April 3) afternoon's Peach Belt Conference game at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Nighthawks improved to 23-11 overall and 10-5 in the Peach Belt, while Young Harris fell to 21-12 and 8-7. The Mountain Lions return to action Wednesday (April 6) with a 3 p.m. first pitch against Lincoln Memorial University at home.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- North Georgia capitalized on five walks and connected on five hits in the first inning to take a nine-run lead.
- Kyle Ayers led off the Mountain Lion first with a single to right center, and came around to score on a Jackson Jones groundout to shortstop.
- The score remained 9-1 until the fourth when Marco Colina hit a RBI double to right field and Mark Castle hit a long sacrifice fly to left to cut the lead to 9-3.
- Ethan Underwood and Noah Fitzgerald hit back-to-back singles in the third inning to give YHC base runners. Underwood came around to score on a wild pitch and Jones hit a long ball to right center -his eighth of the season- to give the Mountain Lions three more runs and cut the deficit to 9-6.
- YHC added its final runs in the seventh off a Castle single to left center that scored Colina and Rome Wallace.
- The Mountain Lions outhit UNG 10-8 and had no errors, opposed to the Nighthawks that had two.
- Jones and Castle led the Mountain Lions with three RBI each. Kyle Ayers, Fitzgerald, and Wallace totaled two hits apiece, while Underwood, Jones, Colina, and Castle each had one.
- Cole Edwards (2-1) recorded the loss for YHC.
