YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College used a late 8-2 run en route to a 75-68 non-conference women's basketball victory over Mars Hill University Tuesday (Nov. 22) evening at the Harp Recreation and Commencement Center.
The Mountain Lions improved to 2-0, while the Lions fell to 2-2. Young Harris returns home to host the YHC Classic this weekend. The Mountain Lions will open up action Saturday (Nov. 26) when they host Tusculum University at 4 p.m.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- With the game tied at 64 with 4:15 to play, the Mountain Lions broke the game open with an 8-2 run that gave YHC a 72-66 lead after Trinity Edwards hit two free throws with 45 seconds left.
- Edwards led the Mountain Lions with 18 points and four assists.
- Mackenzie Johnson recorded a double double with 16 points and 22 rebounds. The 22 rebounds were two off the program's record of 24 set by Johnson last year. Nine of the rebounds came on the offensive glass as YHC outrebounded Mars Hill 47-35 (18-12 on offensive rebounds). Johnson went 6-of-9 from the floor.
- JaMari Frederick (14) and Kalen Surles (11) also finished in double figures for YHC. Surles dished out seven assists.
- The Mountain Lions shot 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the free throw line.
