MONTEVALLO, Ala. | Young Harris College men's cross country runner
Tim Asis punched his ticket to nationals as the Mountain Lions came in 10th place at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship Saturday (Nov. 5) morning.
Tim Asis earned his trip to the NCAA Division II National Championship in two weeks in Saint Leo, Florida, by virtue of his second place finish in the 10K race on the Montevallo Cross Country Course with a time of 30:02.40. The top three teams and the top two individuals not from one of the top three teams earned a berth to nationals. It's the first trip to nationals for
Tim Asis, but the second consecutive year that a YHC runner has made the trip to nationals.
Mathew Biwott, who ran at last year's national meet, but came up 24 seconds short of making his second national appearance. Biwott came in  seventh place overall with a time of 30:56.27, but he had the fourth-best finish among runners not from the top three teams.  Armstrong State University's Henning Schein came in fifth place (30:37.61) to snag the other individual spot.
Both
Tim Asis and Biwott earned U.S.T.F.C.C.C.A. All-Region honors by virtue of their top-25 finish. It was the second consecutive year that Biwott has earned the region honor.
Young Harris tied its best-ever finish - set last year - as the Mountain Lions scored 316 points. The University of Mount Olive won the 24-team event with 57 points, 20 better than Mars Hill University and 44 better than Queens University of Charlotte.
Jeremy Webb closed out his YHC career as he finished in 98th place with a time of 34:13.57, while
Abraham Asis came in 113th with an effort of 34:35.24.
Raul Ramirez placed 123rd with a time of 35:00.63, while
Matthew Olle came in 169th place with a time of 43:17.29.
