MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Young Harris College men's cross country runner
Tim Asis won the Peach Belt Conference Championship individual title while the Mountain Lions finished in sixth place in the team competition Saturday (Oct. 22) morning on the Council Farm Course.
Tim Asis, a sophomore from Eldoret, Kenya, covered the 8K course in a time of 24:42.6, the 10th-fatest time ever ran in a PBC Championship Event. The PBC Runner of the Year finished 10 seconds ahead of Armstrong State University's Henning Schein.
With
Tim Asis' victory, it's the second consecutive year that a YHC runner has won the PBC title. Last year's champion
Mathew Biwott finished in eighth place with a time of 25:36.2. Both
Tim Asis and Biwott were named to the All-PBC team by virtue of finishing in the top 15. It was the second time Biwott has been named to the All-PBC squad.
Young Harris, which is 10th in the latest U.S.T.F.C.C.C.A. regional rankings, tied its best-ever finish in the conference meet as they came in sixth place with 154 points in the race. Flagler College took the team title with 56 points.
Jeremy Webb finished in 40th place with a time of 27:05.7 while
Abraham Asis came in 46th with an effort of 27:18.4.
Raul Ramirez also came in 72nd place with a time of 28:52.2 while
Matthew Olle came in 86th with a run of 34:29.3.
The Mountain Lions will travel to Montevallo, Alabama, Nov. 5 to compete in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championships.
