YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.| The Mountain Lions delivered a dominant all-around performance, rolling past Mars Hill, 15-2, behind an explosive offense and focus on the mound.
Young Harris set the tone early, taking a 1-0 lead into the second inning before continuing to apply pressure at the plate. The Mountain Lions broke things open in the fifth when Jonny Smith came through with a clutch two RBI double, extending the lead to 3-0, giving the home crowd and teammates a fire to rally around.
The seventh inning was where the Lions erupted with energy, Jeo Hernandez delivered one of the biggest swings of the day, ripping a bases clearing double to push the lead to 8-0 and effectively put the game out of reach.
Mars Hill managed to break through in the ninth with a pair of runs, but any hope of a comeback had long been well in control by the Mountain Lions thanks to a massive eighth inning. The Mountain Lions exploded for seven runs, highlighted by RBI hits from Carlos Martans, Kade Smallwood, and Jackson Morgan, who drove in two with a shot down the left side as the Enchanted Valley erupted. By the end of the inning, Young Harris had stretched the lead to 15-2.
The Mountain Lions finished with 14 hits and showcased patience at the plate with 10 walks, constantly putting pressure on Mars Hill pitching.
