Mountain Lions Fall to No. 5 Columbus State

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College Men's Tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 5 Columbus State on Thursday (Apr. 2) afternoon at the Bob and Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Cougars (10-2) secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Samer Al Tori and Yike Liu earned a 6-1 victory over Greyson Williams and Noah Torrealba Auerbach at No. 2 doubles, while Benedek Szombathelyi and Daniel Hammond followed with a 6-2 win over Nills Vercruyssen and Mason Harmon at No. 3. The No. 1 doubles match between Andrea Sandrone and Elias Peter and Young Harris' Samuel Guzon and Noah Pawirodirjo was left unfinished at 5-4.

In singles play, Columbus State clinched the match with straight-set wins at No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6. Szombathelyi defeated Harmon 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, Hammond earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Torrealba Auerbach at No. 5, and Peter secured the deciding point with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Parker Rowan at No. 6.

Three additional singles matches went unfinished after the match was decided. At No. 1, Pawirodirjo trailed 6-3 and was tied 3-3 in the second set against Al Tori when play was halted. At No. 2, Guzon dropped the first set 6-0 and was tied 3-3 in the second set versus Liu before the match was stopped. At No. 4, Williams fell 7-5 in the opening set to Sandrone before play was halted in the second set.

Young Harris falls to 6-9 overall, while Columbus State improves to 10-2.
