Mountain Lions Win Series at Belmont Abbey

BELMONT, N.C. | The Young Harris College baseball team picked up a key Conference Carolinas series victory on the road this weekend, taking two of three games from Belmont Abbey. The Mountain Lions won Friday's opener 10-9, dropped Saturday's first game 10-4, and responded with an 11-5 victory in the series finale.

With the series win, Young Harris moves to 33-13 overall and 23-7 in Conference Carolinas play.

Young Harris rallied from an early deficit to claim Friday's opener in dramatic fashion. Belmont Abbey jumped in front 1-0 in the first on a solo home run before Jayden Carbonell-Smith answered with a solo shot in the second to tie the game. The Mountain Lions moved ahead 3-1 in the third on a two-run home run from Jack Enrico, but the Crusaders responded with a six-run bottom of the third to take a 7-3 lead.

The Mountain Lions answered immediately in the fourth. Keypher Contreras launched a game-tying grand slam to even the score at 7-7. Belmont Abbey added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to regain the lead, but Young Harris kept responding. Enrico drove in a run with a single in the sixth to tie the game at 8-8, then doubled home Jackson Morgan in the eighth to make it 9-9. Later in the inning, Carbonell-Smith drove in the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice to put the Mountain Lions in front for good.

Sam Neal earned the win in relief, tossing 4.0 innings and allowing just one run while striking out four. Brock Parker worked 2.0 innings and allowed one unearned run.
