YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College women's lacrosse team jumped out to a strong start against nationally ranked Rollins College on Sunday morning (Mar. 8), leading after the opening quarter before the Tars rallied to claim a 19-13 victory at the Young Harris College Lacrosse Field.
Young Harris (3-2) came out firing, scoring seven first-quarter goals to take a 7-4 lead. Mary Troyer opened the scoring with a goal off an assist from Addison Heiser before adding another minutes later. Riley Parker then sparked the offense with three first-quarter goals as the Mountain Lions built momentum early against the nationally ranked Tars.
Rollins (7-1) began to chip away in the second quarter, tying the game at 8-8 before Parker scored twice late in the period to give Young Harris a 10-9 lead heading into halftime.
The Tars turned the momentum in the third quarter, outscoring Young Harris 6-2 to take a 15-12 advantage entering the final frame. Rollins continued the push in the fourth quarter, adding four more goals while holding the Mountain Lions to one.
Parker led the Young Harris offense with six goals and one assist, finishing with seven points and eight shots on goal. Sydney Craig and Mary Troyer each added two goals, while Addison Heiser recorded two goals and three assists. Erika Baalam also scored for the Mountain Lions.
Rollins was led by Delanie Abere (6 points) and Molly Mendes, who each scored four goals. Delaney Hudson added three goals for the Tars.
McKenna Graf recorded 13 saves in goal for Young Harris as the Mountain Lions battled throughout against the nationally ranked opponent.
