YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College women's lacrosse team fell to UVa-Wise 14-9 on Wednesday afternoon (Mar. 11) at the Young Harris Lacrosse Field.
UVa-Wise (8-1) struck first when Noley Hiller opened the scoring early in the first quarter. Erika Baalam answered for the Mountain Lions with an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1-1. The Cavaliers responded with two late goals in the quarter to take a 3-1 lead after the opening frame.
The Cavaliers extended their advantage in the second quarter, scoring five times to build an 8-1 lead before Young Harris responded. Riley Parker scored with an assist from Kayla Lynn, and Sydney Craig added another goal off a pass from Mary Troyer to cut the deficit to 8-3 heading into halftime.
Young Harris (3-3) showed resilience in the second half, matching UVA-Wise with six goals over the final two quarters. Sydney Craig and Addison Heiser each scored in the third quarter, while Camille Curry added a free-position goal to keep the Mountain Lions within striking distance.
In the fourth quarter, Baalam converted on a free-position opportunity before Troyer and Parker added late goals, but the Cavaliers maintained control to secure the victory.
Craig, Baalam, and Parker each scored two goals for the Mountain Lions, while Troyer, Heiser, and Curry also found the back of the net.
