YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College women's lacrosse team stayed perfect in Conference Carolinas play on Saturday afternoon (Mar. 14), defeating Barton College 15-11 at home.
With the win, the Mountain Lions improved to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
Young Harris came out firing in the opening quarter, scoring six times to take a 6-3 lead. Addison Heiser got the Mountain Lions on the board early, and after Barton answered, Young Harris responded with four straight goals from Mary Troyer, Riley Parker, and Sydney Craig to seize control.
Barton battled back in the second quarter and briefly tied the match at 7-7, but Sydney Craig scored with 3:26 remaining in the half to send the Mountain Lions into the break with an 8-7 advantage.
Young Harris created separation in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 4-1. Heiser opened the half with a free-position goal before Troyer, Erika Baalam, and Kayla Lynn all found the back of the net to push the lead to 12-8.
Barton made one final push in the fourth quarter, trimming the deficit to 13-11, but the Mountain Lions answered late. Heiser scored with 4:57 remaining, and Gianna Lemieux added the final goal just 12 seconds later to seal the 15-11 victory.
