Mountain Lions Split Midweek Series With Montevallo

YOUNG HARRIS, GA| The Young Harris College baseball team returned home this week (March 24th and 25th) for a two-game midweek series against the University of Montevallo. YH used a strong mix of offensive firepower and dominant pitching in game one to capture a 13-2 victory. Young Harris would fall short in game two by the score of 6-3 to split the midweek series. 
 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

Young Harris takes game one 13-2. 

  • Jack Enrico put the Mountain Lions on the board in the first inning with a 2-RBI double to the right center gap. 

  • YH would take a 2-0 lead in the second inning with Keypher Contreras crossing home on a wild pitch. 

  • Montevallo would put their only runs of the day on the board in the sixth inning with a two-run home run from Jack Fitzgerald. 

  • Kade Smallwood responded with a two-run homerun of his own in the bottom of the sixth to give the Mountain Lions a 10-2 lead. 

  • Keypher Contreras would cross home to give YH an 11-2 lead in the seventh before Kade Smallwood launched a homerun to right field to take a 12-2 lead in the eighth inning. 

  • Jackson Morgan gave Young Harris the deciding 13-2 lead later in the eighth, scoring on a passed ball. 

  • Drew Sofield got the start on the mound and pitched an effective five innings while only allowing three baserunners and striking out six. 

  • Brock Parker and Cade Middleton would pitch the final four innings with Middleton striking out three over three innings of work. 

Montevallo takes game two 6-3.

  • Montevallo jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning with a sacrifice fly and a pair of RBI hits. 

  • Caleb Karll and Mason Woolever gave Montevallo a 5-0 lead in the third inning with a pair of RBI hits. 

  • Young Harris would respond in the bottom half of the third inning, plating two runs with an RBI double from Jackson Morgan before scoring himself by way of a Jack Enrico RBI to make the score 5-2. 

  • Hudson Allen pushed the Montevallo lead to 6-2 in the eighth with an RBI double. 

  • Carlos Martans picked up an RBI single in the bottom half of the eighth to make the score 6-3. 

  • Tommy Dowd gave Young Harris a strong performance on the mound, only allowing one hit and striking out three over 4.1 innings of work.

The Mountain Lions will return to action on Friday, March 27th at 6:00PM for the opener of a three-game Conference Carolinas series with King University at Zell B. Miller Field.
