Mountain Lions MAUL Braves in Road Sweep

PEMBROKE, N.C. | The Young Harris College baseball team kept rolling over the weekend, sweeping UNC Pembroke in three games by scores of 16-3, 4-2, and 15-2 at Sammy Cox Field.

With the sweep, the Mountain Lions improved to 23-6 overall and 16-2 in Conference Carolinas play. Young Harris piled up 35 runs and 47 hits across the three-game set, taking down a strong Braves squad on its home field in emphatic fashion.

Game One: Young Harris 16, UNC Pembroke 3

The Mountain Lions set the tone immediately in Friday's opener and never let up, scoring in six different innings while posting 22 hits in a dominant win.

Jack Enrico got Young Harris on the board in the first with an RBI double, and the Mountain Lions added three more runs in the third inning to build a 4-0 lead. Young Harris kept applying pressure in the fourth and fifth before blowing the game open late.

Enrico finished with four hits and four RBIs, while Jonny Smith also drove in four runs, highlighted by a three-run home run in the seventh. Drew Bray went 4-for-6 with four runs scored and two RBIs, and Kade Smallwood added three hits and three runs scored.

Cole Molina earned the win, going six innings and allowing three runs on five hits.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Jack Enrico went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and two doubles (POTG).

• Jonny Smith finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run.

• Drew Bray went 4-for-6 with four runs scored and two RBIs.

• Kade Smallwood collected three hits and scored three runs.

• Young Harris totaled 22 hits in the victory.

Game Two: Young Harris 4, UNC Pembroke 2

The Mountain Lions completed Saturday's first game with another strong effort, using timely hitting and solid pitching to lock up the series win.

UNC Pembroke grabbed an early 2-0 lead on a two-run home run in the first inning, but Young Harris answered in the third when Drew Bray singled home Sydney Ward.

The Mountain Lions took control in the fourth. Ward ripped a two-run double to score Jonny Smith and Jack Enrico, and Carlos Martans followed with an RBI single to plate Ward and give Young Harris a 4-2 lead.

Barrett Eldridge earned the win after throwing five innings and allowing two runs on three hits. Trey Griffin closed the door with two scoreless innings to pick up the save.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Sydney Ward went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

• Carlos Martans finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

• Kade Smallwood and Jackson Morgan each recorded two hits.

• Barrett Eldridge earned the win with five innings of work.

• Trey Griffin secured the save with two scoreless innings.

Game Three: Young Harris 15, UNC Pembroke 2

The Mountain Lions wrapped up the sweep in explosive fashion, scoring four runs in the first inning and never looking back in another lopsided win.

Young Harris plated four in the opening frame, highlighted by a two-run single from Keypher Contreras and an RBI walk by Carlos Martans. Smallwood added a solo home run in the second before the Mountain Lions broke things wide open in the fourth when Drew Bray homered and Jonny Smith launched a grand slam to make it 10-0.

Smallwood struck again with a three-run homer in the sixth, and Jackson Morgan followed with a solo shot as Young Harris built a 15-0 cushion.

Smith finished with five RBIs, while Smallwood drove in four and scored four times. Bray added three hits and Morgan scored three runs.

Austin Ritchie earned the win with five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Jonny Smith went 3-for-5 with five RBIs, including a grand slam (POTG).

• Kade Smallwood homered twice and drove in four runs.

• Drew Bray finished 3-for-5 with a home run.

• Jackson Morgan added a home run and scored three runs.

• Austin Ritchie tossed five scoreless innings to earn the win.
