Mountain Lions Fall in Second Round, Cement Back-to-Back 22-Win Campaigns

MURFREESBORO, N.C. | The Mountain Lions run came to an end Monday evening, but not without a fight. The No. 7 seed Young Harris Mountain Lions pushed No. 6 seed Chowan in the second round of the Conference Carolinas Championship before falling 64-58, finishing the season with an impressive 22-8 record and marking back-to-back 22-win seasons for the program under head coach Lindsey Huffman.

Young Harris came out sharp, building a 17-9 first-quarter lead and controlling the early tempo. Chowan responded in the third quarter, shooting 61.5 percent in the frame to swing momentum. The Mountain Lions continued to battle in the fourth, trimming the deficit and competing possession-for-possession down the stretch, but could not overcome the late surge.

Kamryn Bates delivered a great final performance in purple and white, leaving everything on the floor in her last game as a Mountain Lion, with 22 points.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Kamryn Bates scored a game-high 22 points, knocking down two three-pointers and six free throws in 38 minutes.

• Chassidy Fedd added 13 points and two steals while playing 36 minutes.

• Annalise Malone contributed eight points and grabbed two rebounds.

• Lilly Griffith pulled down seven rebounds and added five points.

• Joy Tchamabe provided seven points off the bench.

• Rhiannon Saller led the team with eight rebounds.

• Young Harris scored 19 points off turnovers and shot 46.7 percent in both the first and third quarters.

Though the season ends in the second round, the Mountain Lions have cemented one of the most successful stretches in program history with consecutive 22-win campaigns and a strong showing in conference tournament play. The foundation is strong and the standard remains high!
