Mountain Lions Take One in Series Loss at Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. | The Young Harris College Mountain Lions dropped a three-game Conference Carolinas series at Francis Marion over the weekend, falling 8-7 in 10 innings in the opener, bouncing back with a 12-6 victory in game two, and dropping the finale 3-1 at Sparrow Stadium.

Game One: Francis Marion 8, Young Harris 7 (10)

Young Harris built a four-run lead but Francis Marion rallied late and walked off the opener in extra innings.

After the Patriots scored three runs in the fourth, the Mountain Lions answered with four runs in the fifth. Kade Smallwood drove in a run with a single, Jackson Morgan added an RBI single, and Jonny Smith delivered a two-run single to give Young Harris a 4-3 lead.

The Mountain Lions added two runs in the sixth on an RBI double from Carlos Martans and an RBI single by Drew Bray before extending the lead to 7-3 in the seventh when Bray was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Francis Marion responded with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game before Dariel Villaran Goundis delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning to give the Patriots the win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Jonny Smith went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
• Kade Smallwood finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double.
• Carlos Martans doubled and drove in a run.
• Drew Bray recorded two RBIs.
• Ryan Heishman was charged with the loss in relief.

Game Two: Young Harris 12, Francis Marion 6

The Mountain Lions responded with an offensive outburst in game two, collecting 16 hits to even the series.

Young Harris erupted for six runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Carlos Martans and a two-run single from Drew Bray. Kade Smallwood later added an RBI single and Jack Enrico doubled home a run to cap the inning.

The Mountain Lions added another run in the fourth before breaking the game open with five runs in the fifth. Smallwood drove in two with a single, Jackson Morgan added an RBI double, and Enrico delivered a two-run single to extend the lead to 12-5.

Sam Neal earned the win in relief as Young Harris secured the split on the day.

Game Three: Francis Marion 3, Young Harris 1

The Patriots secured the series in a pitching duel in the finale.

Young Harris took a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning when Carlos Martans drove in Keypher Contreras with a groundout.

Francis Marion answered in the seventh with an RBI single from Brandon Vargas before Charlie Bussey III delivered a two-run home run to give the Patriots a 3-1 advantage.

Cole Molina tossed six scoreless innings for the Mountain Lions before Sean Keener was charged with the loss in relief.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Cole Molina threw six scoreless innings, allowing seven hits with two strikeouts.
• Keypher Contreras scored Young Harris' lone run.
• Carlos Martans drove in the Mountain Lions' only RBI.
• Young Harris turned two double plays in the game.
