Mountain Lions XC Starts the Season Strong at Bob Jones University

GREENVILLE, S.C. | The Young Harris College men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2025 season under the lights at Bob Jones University with a strong showing at the Bruins XC Night Classic. The men's team headlined the evening with a first-place finish in a 12-team field that included Roar War rival Emmanuel University. The win on the men's side marks the first time in school history that Young Harris College has won a meet. The women's team placed seventh overall in the same pool, showing promise in their season debut. The women's 4k race began at 8:15 p.m., followed by the men's 6k at 8:45 p.m. with high anticipation. 

Men's Results: (6K)

  • Young Harris placed first of 12 teams with a total time of 1:39:46 and an average time of 19:57 per runner (43 points). 

  • Aidan Vrazel (FR) led all runners at BJU, finishing 2nd overall with a time of 19:34.1. 

  • Xander Potter (SO) placed 6th overall with a time of 19:49.7. 

  • Noah Mason (SR) finished 13th overall with a time of 20:07.7. 

  • Dylan Stone (FR) rounded out the top six with a 20th-place finish and a time of 20:34.4. 

Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Matt Logan praised the men's effort saying "We are in Huntsville next weekend, so the plan was to be really relaxed through 4k and get after it late. It's great to open the season up with a win. These guys really deserve it. I'm excited for our group this year." 

Women's Results: (4K)

  • Young Harris placed seventh of 13 teams with a total time of 1:26:29 and an average time of 17:17 per runner (190 points). 

  • Peyton Martin (FR) led the Mountain Lions with a 23rd-place finish and a time of 16:36.7. 

  • Caitlynn Krumm (FR) followed in 35th place with a time of 17:05.5. 

  • Caroline Bass (JR) completed the top six with a 60th-place finish and a time of 17:59.6. 

Coach Logan shared his thoughts on the women's performance saying "Excited to kick-off the year with this group of women. We were missing some key pieces, but I liked the way we competed and how the women supported each other." 

Up Next: 

The Mountain Lions XC squads return to action on Friday (Sept. 12) in Huntsville, Alabama for the Southern Showcase, hosted by Jax State, where both teams will look to build on their season openers.
