Mountain Lions Dominate the Midweek Double Header versus Union

JACKSON, TN| The Mountain Lions traveled to the home of Union University today (April 9th) for a doubleheader midweek matchup. Young Harris will return home after completing the sweep by way of an offensive explosion, scoring THIRTY runs on the day. 

The Mountain Lions move to 28-11 overall and are 15-6 in Conference Carolinas while the Bulldogs move to 15-23 overall and are 9-14 in the Gulf South Conference. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

Game One: 

  • Young Harris took game one with the final score of 14-6. 

  • The Mountain Lions came out of the gate firing with Jeremy Begora and Luke Hatcher hitting back-to-back solo homeruns in the first inning. 

  • YHC would add on in the first with Mark Castle launching a three-run homerun to take an early 5-0 lead. 

  • Jack Enrico stretched the lead to 6-0 in the first inning, hitting a solo blast to left field. 

  • Union scored two runs in the bottom half of the first with Carson Chavies and Grant Ross hitting RBI singles. 

  • Kade Smallwood joined the homerun party in the second inning, sending a solo shot to right field to make the score 7-2. 

  • In the top of the third inning, Jonny Smith belted a grand slam over the left-field fence to give YHC an 11-2 lead. 

  • Jack Enrico added on in the fifth inning, hitting an RBI double down the right field line before later scoring on a wild pitch to make the lead 13-2. 

  • Union added a run in the bottom of the fifth before Jackson Morgan would make the score 14-3 on an RBI single. 

  • Union used a pair of RBI singles in the seventh inning to make the score 14-6. 

  • Jacob Autry picked up the win on the mound for the Mountain Lions, striking out two over two innings of work. 

Game Two: 

  • Young Harris took game two with the score of 16-6. 

  • The Mountain Lions took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning with Kade Smallwood hitting an RBI double before Jonny Smith hit an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch. 

  • Union responded with three runs in the bottom half of the first to tie the game at 3-3. 

  • Dyllon Barrett tied the game for Union with an RBI single in the second inning. 

  • Jeremy Begora etched his name into the YHC record books with his 44th career home run in the top of the fourth inning. 

  • The next batter, Luke Hatcher, launched a solo shot to center field to give Young Harris a 6-4 lead before Jonny Smith crossed home plate on an error to make the score 7-4 in the fourth inning. 

  • Mark Castle ripped a 3-RBI double in the fifth inning before Marco Colina came to the plate and launched a 3-run homerun to give the Mountain Lions a 13-4 lead in the fifth inning. 

  • Union added one to make the score 13-5 on a Jake Keyl single. 

  • Jonny Smith added on in the sixth inning with a 2-RBI double to give YHC a 15-5 lead. 

  • Union cut the lead to 15-6 with an RBI single from Dyllon Barrett in the sixth inning. 

  • Matthew Pearce recorded the win in a combined effort for the Mountain Lions, throwing one scoreless inning. 

UP NEXT:
The Mountain Lions will return to action at home Friday (April 11th) night to take on Belmont Abbey at Zell B. Miller Field.
