Tornado Blown Away: YH Erupts Offensively to Win Series

YH takes two of three from the Tornado, adding another Conference Carolinas series win to their resume as they continue to climb in the rankings (Apr 5th).

BRISTOL, TN | YH takes two of three from the Tornado, adding another Conference Carolinas series win to their resume as they continue to climb in rankings (Apr 5th). After falling short in Friday's game one, the Mountain Lions couldn't have bounced back stronger, hanging a collective 35 runs on day two. Drew Bray was stellar on day two, finishing 7-for-10, with five of those seven coming in game two.

The Mountain Lions advance to 26-11 overall and move to 15-9 in Conference Carolinas play. The Tornado moves to 9-28 overall and are 5-16 in Conference Carolinas.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

Game 1 (4/4):
  • The Tornado's early lead helped them win game one with a final score of 6-5.
  • King started the game 5-0 after five different hitters made contact at the plate for RBIs in the second inning.
  • YH's first run of the game came in the third inning after a wild pitch issued by the King pitching staff. Jeremy Begora advanced across the plate.
  • Jose Ruiz singled up the middle for an RBI in the third, extending King's lead to 6-1.
  • Young Harris got some momentum in the seventh, but it ultimately wasn't enough. Drew Bray had an RBI double in addition to Luke Hatcher (3-for-4) hitting a three-run home run.
  • Luke Hatcher was 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI.
  • As a pinch hitter, Jackson Morgan was 1-for-2 with a double on the evening.
  • King's Ben Hale was granted the win after 4.2 innings pitched, allowing four hits, five runs, and two walks while striking out three. Tanner Hunley got the save after 2.0 innings pitched and two punch outs.

Game 2 (4/5 – 7 innings):
  • Game two was an explosive win for the Mountain Lions, who came home with a 22-3 win.
  • An RBI single up the middle by Turner Stout put King on top 1-0 in the first inning… this would be the only time the Tornado would lead in the game.
  • In the second, Kyle Chatham (2-for-4) and Jack Enrico (1-for-2) each picked up an RBI.
  • The third inning was all YH action, who would leave the inning with an 11-1 lead. The squad hit through the lineup as Jeremy Begora (3-for-3) and Luke Hatcher (2-for-4) contributed twice. Begora had two RBI singles, while Hatcher hit a grand slam in his first at bat followed by an RBI double down the right field line.
  • Things started to get out of hand for King in the fourth. After Kyle Chatham's RBI, both Marco Colina (1-for-2) and Jack Enrico scored on wild pitches, extending the lead to 14-1.
  •  Conner Hyatt of King singled to right center in the fourth for the Tornado's second run.
  • The remainder of the Young Harris offensive excitement occurred in the fifth. Kyle Chatham, Carlos Martans (1-for-4), Drew Bray (5-for-6), Jace Wilson (1-for-2), Jackson Morgan (2-for-3), and Marco Colina all recorded RBIs to put the game out of reach, 22-2.
  • Kale Richardson had a sacrifice fly in the fifth, the final run of game one of the double-header.
  • Drew Bray was 5-for-6 at the plate with four RBI in addition to Jonny Smith going 2-for-3 also with four RBI.
  • Mountain Lion starter Austin Ritchie adds his seventh win to his 2025 resume after five innings pitched, allowing eight hits, three runs, four walks, while striking out two.

Game 3 (4/5 – 9 innings):
  • YH swiped game three with a dominating 13-6 final score over King University.
  • Like what they did in the games one and two, the Tornado got on the scoreboard first. Three RBI singles made the score 3-0.
  • Kyle Chatham (2-for-4) and Carlos Martans' (3-for-5) RBI base hits in addition to Mark Castle's (1-for-4) heads-up baseball tied the game in the second inning at three apiece.
  • A Young Harris fielding error in the third gave King the lead, 4-3.
  • The bottom of the fourth was a monstrous inning for the Mountain Lions. Hitting through the lineup once again, many contributed at the plate, but it was Carlos Martans who made a difference twice. He singled to right and center field, each for RBIs in this inning. Jeremy Begora (1-for-4) hit a three-run blast to left field in addition to Mark Castle and Marco Colina (1-for-5) reaching on Tornado fielding errors, bringing in runners. Young Harris led 12-4.
  • King's Nathan Borchardt added one more for the Tornado in the fifth.
  • For the last run of the series in the seventh, Luke Hatcher (1-for-6) recorded an RBI, which would make the score 13-6.
  • SS Carlos Martans finished 3-for-5 with four RBI to finish out the series.
  • Drew Howard continues his undefeated bid, adding his fourth win of the year after four innings pitched. He allowed two hits, no runs, and one walk while striking out two.
UP NEXT: The Mountain Lions will head to Union University in a non-conference midweek double-header on Wednesday (Apr 9th). First pitches are scheduled for approximately 1/4PM.
