Box Score Greenville, TN | In the last midweek game of the regular season, the Mountain Lions defeated the Pioneers of Tusculum University with a final score of 12-5 (Apr 23rd). Big innings at the plate continue to be the story for the Young Harris offense, who had back-to-back four-run innings this afternoon. In what seems to be a bullpen game for YH, each of the six pitchers who took the mound all recorded at least one strikeout.

The Mountain Lions advance to 34-12 overall and remain 6-3 in Conference Carolinas. The Pioneers fall to 17-29 overall and have a 10-17 record in the South Atlantic Conference.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Each squad had an impressive double-digit hit game, yet the Mountain Lions capitalized with 12 runs to the Pioneers' five.
  • Ty Smith put the first Pioneer run on the board after his sacrifice fly to left field in the first.
  • Kyle Chatham (3-for-5) knocked one through the left side in the top of the second inning, scoring Kade Smallwood (2-for-3) to tie the game at one.
  • With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Ryan Ortega put the bat on the ball for two RBI with a single to right field. YH trailed 1-3.
  • The fifth and sixth innings were game-changing for the Mountain Lions, who tallied a collective eight runs in this span. In the fifth, Luke Hatcher (2-for-6) had an RBI double followed up by Kade Smallwood's RBI single through the right side. To deepen the wound, Jonny Smith (2-for-5) launched a two-run home run to left.
  • Jeremy Begora and Luke Hatcher continue to contribute from the top of the lineup, while each picked up RBI in the sixth. This at-bat was Hatcher's second double of the game.
  • For the third time of the game the YH bats executed with two outs, Jeremy Begora reached on a fielder's choice to third base, scoring Kyle Chatham in the seventh.
  • The Pioneers tacked on two in the bottom of the eighth inning and gave up two runs in the ninth due to a fielding error and wild pitch mishaps.
  • Tusculum had a whopping five errors through nine innings this afternoon, while Young Harris was flawless in the field.
  • YH had five in the lineup record multi-hit performances (Bray, Hatcher, Smallwood, Smith, and Chatham)
