Mountain Lions Soar Past Hawks with Series SWEEP

ROME, Ga. | The Mountain Lions traveled to the home of Shorter University this weekend (April 19th) for a Conference Carolinas series with the Hawks of Shorter. Young Harris brought the brooms out, sweeping Shorter, by the scoring margin of 24-8 across three games. 

Young Harris moves to 34-12 overall and are 20-7 in Conference Carolinas while Shorter moves to 24-19 overall and are 12-15 in Conference Carolinas. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

GAME 1 

  • Young Harris takes game 1 by the score of 11-5. 

  • The Mountain Lions took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning with Luke Hatcher launching a three-run homerun and Jack Enrico adding another run on a sacrifice fly. 

  • Shorter cut the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the first inning. 

  • Mark Castle knocked in two runs on an RBI single in the third inning, before Luke Hatcher came to the plate in the fourth inning and smoked a two-run homerun for his 2nd long ball of the day to give YHC an 8-1 lead. 

  • Shorter added two runs in the fifth to make the score 8-3 before Kade Smallwood drove a two-run homerun over the right-field fence to give YHC a 10-3 lead. 

  • Shorter made the score 10-5 with a Will Fincher solo homerun in the seventh and a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. 

  • Kade Smallwood added one more insurance run for the Mountain Lions with an RBI single in the ninth inning. 

  • Zach Hart got the start and win for Young Harris, striking out eight Hawks over 7.2 innings pitched. 

GAME TWO 

  • Young Harris would take game two by the score of 6-1. 

  • YHC took an early 1-0 lead with Kade Smallwood scoring on an error by the Hawks defense. 

  • Jonny Smith made the score 2-0 on an RBI single before Mark Castle added another run on a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-0 Mountain Lion lead in the third inning. 

  • Young Harris would take a 6-0 lead in the sixth inning with Jack Enrico launching a solo homerun to right-field and Drew Bray adding another run on an RBI single. 

  • Shorter added one run in the sixth inning to make the score 6-1. 

  • Austin Ritchie was excellent on the mound for the Mountain Lions, striking out nine and only allowing one run over a complete game, seven inning outing. 

GAME THREE 

  • The Mountain Lions completed the series sweep by the score of 7-2 in game three. 

  • Griffin Clark tied the game at 1 in the second with a solo homerun for Shorter. 

  • Carlos Martans blasted a two-run homerun in the fourth inning to give YHC a 3-1 lead. 

  • Julian Sauger cut the lead to 3-2 with a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth. 

  • Jeremy Begora added on for the Mountain Lions, sending a two-run homerun down the left field line to take a 5-2 lead in the sixth inning. 

  • Jeremy Begora added some extra insurance in the seventh inning on a two-RBI single to left field. 

  • Graham Edwards got the start and win to complete the sweep, striking out six Hawks and only surrendering two runs over 8.1 innings pitched. 

UP NEXT:
Young Harris will return to action when they travel to Tusculum University for a midweek showdown on Wednesday (April 23rd).
