Mountain Lions Men’s Tennis Falls to UMO, 2-5

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College men's tennis team battled hard against the University of Mount Olive but came up short in a 5-2 decision Saturday (Mar. 29) afternoon at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex. 

The Mountain Lions (5-12) showcased their grit and determination throughout the match, securing key wins in both singles and doubles play. 

Match Recap: 

Young Harris found success in doubles action, with the No. 3 pairing of Greyson Williams and Gregor Gottein putting together an impressive performance to claim a 6-2 victory. The No. 1 duo of Mason Harmon and Noah Pawirodirjo fought valiantly in a tightly contested match but ultimately fell 7-5. 

In singles play, Mason Harmon continued to shine at the No. 1 position, delivering a thrilling three-set battle. After securing the first set 7-6 in a tiebreaker, Harmon pushed his opponent to the limit before winning a third-set tiebreak. Gregor Gottein also put forth a strong showing at No. 4, forcing his opponent to retire after splitting the first two sets, resulting in a victory for the Mountain Lions. 

Despite their best efforts, Young Harris was unable to overcome Mount Olive in the remaining singles matchups.

The Mountain Lions will look to regroup and return to Conference Carolinas play on Friday (Apr. 4) when they take on Belmont Abbey at home.
