Begora & YH Offense Explode in High-Stakes UMO Series

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Making a statement in Conference Carolinas and NCAA DII, the Mountain Lions swept the Trojans of Mount Olive this weekend in thrilling fashion (Mar 28th-29th). Jeremy Begora found a groove at the plate this series, with a collective 12 RBI and five home runs.

The Mountain Lions head to 24-9 on the 2025 campaign and move to 13-5 in Conference Carolinas. The Trojans move to 20-13 overall and are 11-7 in Conference Carolinas.

QUOTING HEAD COACH STEPHEN WAGGENER:

"Really proud of our guys. There are just so many good teams in our conference and in our region that we compete against. Just really fortunate this weekend that we came out with three big wins for our season."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

Game 2 (7 innings):

  • In this home run heavy game, the Mountain Lions shut out the Trojans with a final score of 10-0.

  • After a scoreless first two innings, the top of the lineup got Young Harris on the board in the third. Drew Bray (2-for-3) singled to right field for run number one, followed up by Jeremy Begora's (2-for-3) two-run blast to left center.

  • With a big swing once again, Jeremy Begora went yard, this time in grand-slam fashion, to give YH a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning.

  • To deepen the wound, Luke Hatcher put the bat on the ball in the sixth for three RBI.

  • Mountain Lion starter Austin Ritchie added his sixth win of the season after pitching a complete game (seven innings). He didn't give up any runs and only allowed five hits and punched out five.

Game 3 (9 innings):

  • To secure the series sweep, Young Harris defeated Mount Olive with a final score of 6-4.

  • The long ball game continued for the Mountain Lions. In the second inning, Jonny Smith (2-for-3) hit a solo shot to left field.

  • Jakhari Howard can be credited for the Trojan's first run on the day after his RBI double in the third.

  • With his third home run on the day, Jeremy Begora (2-for-3) stepped up to the plate with confidence for another blast over the fences. This was a two-run home run.

  • Mount Olive took the lead in the seventh after a fielder's choice and a Jakhari Howard RBI single through the left side. UMO led 4-3.

  • Two YH singles in the seventh by Luke Hatcher (1-for-5) and Kade Smallwood (1-for-4) returned the lead back to the home squad.

  • And for some wiggle room in the eighth, Drew Bray (1-for-3) knocked one through the right side for an RBI.

  • Ryan Cross came out of the Mountain Lion bullpen this afternoon and picked up his third win of the year. After three innings on the mound, he recorded five strikeouts.
