Mountain Lions Fall Short in Day Two's Crossover Games

After facing two tough opponents in Lenoir-Rhyne and Columbus State, the Mountain Lions fell one run short of a victory in both games.

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. After facing two tough opponents in Lenoir-Rhyne and Columbus State, the Mountain Lions fell one run short of a victory in both games (Feb 8th). 
 
The Mountain Lions move to 3-3 on the season. The CSU Cougars move to 3-2 and the LRU Bears move to 6-1 on the year.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
 
Game 1 vs Columbus State
  • Young Harris fell short to Columbus State with a final score of 5-6.
  • In the fourth Bryce Knox kicked things off with a three-run homerun.
  • The Mountain Lions got on the scoreboard in the fourth as well, after a Kade Smallwood blast. Johnny Smith then reached on a throwing error, scoring Jack Enrico. 
  • C Evans singled to left center for a CSU RBI in the fifth. 
  • The sixth inning was rolling for Young Harris after Johnny Smith singled to left for two RBIs and Kyle Chatham had a sacrifice fly. YHC led 5-4 at this point.
  • In a comeback effort, the Cougars had an RBI triple to tie the game and then a single down the left field line for the go-ahead run. 
  • Graham Edwards and Ryan Heishman each picked up four strikeouts.
 
 
Game 2 vs Lenoir-Rhyne
  • Lenoir-Rhyne defeated Young Harris with a final score of 18-17.
  • The Bears jumped out to a huge lead in the first inning, stunning the Mountain Lions with six runs. 
  • Two sacrifice flies by Jeremy Begora (2-3) and Johnny Smith put two on the board for YHC in their half of the first. 
  • Luke Hatcher (2-3) hit an RBI single to left in the bottom of the second inning.
  • Young Harris regained the lead in the fourth. Johnny Smith got things started with an RBI single down the RF line. Drew Bray (2-3) and Luke Hatcher's HBPs with the loaded bases drew in two more. Kade Smallwood came up big with a single to center to make the score 8-6 YHC.
  • LRU and YHC both tacked on in the fifth, a run a piece. Luke Hatcher's double to LF was key for the Mountain Lions.
  • Momentum changed again in the sixth. The Bears scored one run on a wild pitch, and another two off Cole Laskowski's RBI double.
  • In response and to tie the game, Jeremy Begora went yard. The game was tied at 10.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne moved through their lineup fast in the seventh, tacking on an impressive seven runs. The Bears were ahead 17-10.
  • The Mountain Lions answered quickly, also adding on seven. Jack Enrico and Mark Castle (3-4) gave YHC some life with RBIs.
  • In the ninth, Sal Carricat homered to right center for the Bear's go ahead run.
  • The game ended on Kade Smallwood's smack to center, where Mackenzie Wainwright made an incredible diving catch for the final out.
 
UP NEXT: The Mountain Lions return home and will play Lee University in a single series game on Wednesday (Feb 12th), with a 1PM first pitch.
