DAHLONEGA, Ga. Matched up with the no. 13 team in Division II tennis, the Mountain Lions came to the plate ready for a challenge, but fell just short 3-4 (Feb 4
th). YHC had an impressive showing, especially on the singles side.
Mason Harmon finished on top of the nighthawks in both his singles and doubles matches.
The Mountain Lions move to 0-1 overall, while the Nighthawks move to 1-1 overall.
QUOTING HEAD COACH MARCY O'CONNOR:
"Both our men's and women's teams competed against a strong UNG team. The men came so close, just falling short 3-4 in a hard-fought battle., while the women secured a win at line 6. We battled on both fronts, and I'm proud of how we competed."
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Nighthawks got off to a strong start with wins in the #1 and #2 contests in doubles. UNG's Pedro Liborio and Franco Rebora matched up in the #1 slot against Noah Pawirodirjo and Caleb McCurry.
- The Mountain Lions took back the momentum in singles play. Greyson Williams defeated Juan Cruz Blanco 6-2, 6-0 to tie the match at one a piece. YHC took the lead shortly thereafter when Mason Harmon took down Maxence Petit in the #4 singles match to make it 2-1.
- Young Harris continued to add on. Caleb McCurry defeated Robin Eldin 6-2, 6-4 in the #2 singles match.
- UNG crawled back in a comeback effort to win the remaining three singles matches.
UP NEXT: The Mountain Lions will continue their road trip this weekend on Saturday (Feb 8
th), where they will play Lincoln Memorial University. First serve is scheduled for 9AM.
