Gastonia, NC| The Mountain Lions lost yesterday's game to Belmont Abbey College, but not all was lost; as Young Harris was sent to the elimination bracket to face Barton College on Friday (May 3) at Sims Legion Park. Young Harris came out victorious, dominating the Bulldogs in the back half of the contest to advance in the conference tournament, with a 10-1 win.

"Proud of our guys for bouncing back today! We got great outings out of Dylan Beck and Ryan Cross. I was pleased to see our offense get back going today as well. We will need our bats to be strong as our pitching depth will be tested as we get further in the Conference Carolinas tournament."Â

Through the first five innings, YHC got out in front by a score of 3-0. Jeremy Begora, Drew Bray, and Kade Smallwood each recorded sacrifice RBIs for the Mountain Lions.Â

Barton College answered in the sixth inning, with their only run of the game coming on a Chase Waddell sacrifice fly to get within two of the Mountain Lions.Â

The big fly's started pouring over the outfield wall in the seventh and eighth innings, with Ethan Stamps (2-run HR), Begora (solo HR), and Jack Enrico (solo HR) each adding on to the YHC lead.Â

Young Harris would tack on three more "insurance runs" in the top of the ninth inning; after loading the bases, Begora picked up an RBI from a bases loaded walk, Enrico recorded an RBI single, and Stamps drove in a run on a fielder's choice.Â

The Mountain Lions pitching staff dominated the game, with Dylan Beck getting the nod today, he gave up only one run on two hits, while striking out four Bulldogs in five complete innings on the mound. Ryan Cross came in to relieve Beck, and threw a perfect four innings of no-hit baseball, while K'ing four Barton hitters. Beck received the win and Cross racked up the save in the 10-1 win.Â

The Bulldogs used the full barn to try and stay alive against the Mountain Lions, using seven pitchers in the contest. Altogether, the Bulldogs pitching staff gave up 14 hits, five walks, hit six Mountain Lions, and surrendered 10 runs. Starter Matt Rivers earned the loss.Â
