Mountain Lion Bats Overpower the Tornado to Complete the Series Sweep

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.| The Mountain Lions picked up the series sweep against King University this afternoon (April 7th) with a 16-7 game three victory. The Young Harris offense would lead the way in today's game, recording nineteen hits and belting three home runs on the day to overpower the Tornado.

The Mountain Lions move to 28-9 overall and are 15-6 in Conference Carolinas. The Tornado move to 10-25 overall and are 4-15 in Conference Carolinas. YHC will return to action Tuesday (April 9th) at Zell B. Miller field to face the University of West Georgia.

QUOTING HEAD COACH STEPHEN WAGGENER:

"Really proud of our team today. We have not been swinging it well the last few weeks, so it was great to see some of our guys break out today that we need for our offense to click the way we need it to be. Hopefully we can use this to get the bats rolling down the back stretch of the season."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Young Harris takes down King 16-7.
  • Nathan Borchardt got the scoring started for King, reaching home on a fielding error by the Mountain Lion defense.
  • Drew Bray would even the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second, bringing home Marco Colina on an RBI single.
  • A bases loaded walk to Jarrett Ford and a Steven Spell hit by pitch stretched the lead to 3-1, scoring Jack Enrico and Jace Wilson in the process.
  • Ethan Stamps added another run for the Mountain Lions on an RBI single, Drew Bray touched home to make the score 4-1.
  • A Kade Smallwood two RBI single to left extended YHC's lead to 6-1.
  • Ethan Stamps scored on a bases loaded walk to Jack Enrico to give Young Harris a 7-1 lead going into the third inning.
  • King added two runs of their own in the top half of the third inning as an RBI single from Nathan Borchardt and a sacrifice fly from Michael Starrs made the score 7-3.
  • Young Harris added another run in the bottom of the third by way of a Jeremy Begora RBI single to bring home Steven Spell.
  • Ethan Stamps drove home Begora and Spell on a double to left field in the seventh inning before later scoring on a wild pitch by King to give Young Harris an 11-3 lead.
  • Enrico launched the first home run of the day for the Mountain Lions on a blast to right field, scoring Marco Colina to make the score 13-3 heading to the eighth inning.
  • King cut the deficit to 13-7 in the top of the eighth inning, scoring one on a Michael Starrs double, before tallying two more on an Andrew Bryant home run.
  • Back-to-back home runs off the bats of Jeremy Begora and Ethan Stamps gave Young Harris a commanding 16-7 lead heading into the ninth inning.
  • Zach Hart got the start and the win for the Mountain Lions, going five innings, striking out three and only allowing two runs.
  • A combined effort from Travis Burnette, Cole Edwards, Brady Caloway and Kaleb Perry would close the game out on the mound for the Mountain Lions.

  • YHC will return to action Tuesday (April 9th) at Zell B. Miller field to face the University of West Georgia at 5:00 p.m.
