YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.| Young Harris College women's lacrosse (7-2, 4-4 CC), picked up a convincing 23-11 win over Converse University (6-7, 2-4 CC) on Saturday afternoon.
Ashlyn Fraley was dominant offensively and scored a game-high seven goals for YHC. Five other Mountain Lions notched hat tricks in the victory.
QUOTING HEAD COACH CHRISTINE HATTON:
"I liked how the team came out and set the tone early. We had a lot of success on offense today, scoring over 20 goals for the fourth time this season. We had lots of contributors and that helped us secure the win."
NOTABLE STATS
- Gwen Gibbons picked up three ground balls in the match which put her over 100 mark for career ground balls.
- Abbie Gallagher got the start in goal and picked up the win. Alyssa Rosenfeld took the crease in the second half and recorded four saves.
- Young Harris out shot Converse 48-21.
- The Mountain Lions dominated in the draw circle, winning 24 draw controls.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- It was a back-and-forth opening seven minutes. Young Harris scored the opening goal and quickly tacked on two more. Izzy Eby found the back of the net twice for Converse, which brought the deficit back to one as the Mountain Lions led 3-2.
- Ally Cattoni found Ruthie Mandell who slotted home her 19th goal of the season. Mandell's goal was the first of seven straight for Young Harris. The Mountain Lions took the commanding 11-4 lead heading into the second quarter.
- The Valkyrie's responded in the second quarter. Beck Reinhardt scored three in a row to cut YHC's lead in half. Gencie Coan buried the final goal of the half. At the break, Young Harris held the 15-8 advantage.
- Alyssa Rosenfeld made two key saves in the third quarter for the Mountain Lions. Young Harris came out and scored the first four goals of the final frame and earned the 23-11 win in front of the home crowd.
