CENTRAL, S.C. | Young Harris women's lacrosse put on an offensive clinic in their 23-2 win over Southern Wesleyan University on Wednesday night. The Mountain Lions scored 11 goals in the first quarter and didn't look back. In the victory,
Ashlyn Fraley scored six goals and
Ruthie Mandell had a hat-trick.
QUOTING HEAD COACH CHRISTINE HATTON:
"We had another great team win today. I liked that we controlled the pace of play from the start. We shared the ball well, and that showed in the box score, with 11 different scorers and seven different people earning assists."
NOTABLE STATS:
- Ella Hancock earned her 201st career point tonight on her goal with 24 seconds left in the third quarter.
- Ashlyn Fraley hit the 100-point milestone for her career. She now has 105 points on 99 goals and six assists.
- Kinsley Purser picked up her 100th ground ball of her career. She finished the match with two goals, one assist, and two ground balls.
- Alyssa Rosenfeld, Abbie Gallagher, and McKenna Graf all split time in goal. Rosenfeld played for 23 minutes, recorded two saves, and got the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Fraley scored 39 seconds into the game to give Young Harris a 1-0 lead. Fraley's goal started an 11-0 run for the Mountain Lions.
- Two goals from Ruthie Mandell and Belle Hardwick highlighted the run. Hardwick's second tally was the final goal of the first quarter.
- Young Harris scored six goals in the second quarter and took a commanding 17-0 lead at the half. Emily Flynt notched the opening goal four minutes into the frame, then Kinsley Purser scored a man up goal, and Fraley found the back of the net twice to end the half.
- Young Harris took a commanding 17-0 lead into the locker room.
- Southern Wesleyan got on the scoresheet in the third quarter. Lauryn Esposito scored the Warriors first goal with 7:13 left in the third. Fianna Steves slotted another one home for Southern Wesleyan.
- Young Harris scored three in the frame, which gave them the 20-3 advantage heading into the final 15 minutes.
- Ruthie Mandell, Jess Sujishi, and Riley Parker scored the final three goals of the game for the Mountain Lions as Young Harris cruised to the 23-2 victory.
