Young Harris Earns Two Close Wins Against King

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.| The Mountain Lions stay on fire at home, picking up two wins (3-2, 6-2) this afternoon (April 6th) in a conference matchup against King University. Zach Murray would lead the way in game one, pitching eight innings of one run ball. The Mountain Lion's bats got hot in game two to complete the doubleheader sweep.

QUOTING HEAD COACH STEPHEN WAGGENER:
"Feel fortunate to come away with two wins today against a well-coached team. Zach Murray, Ryan Cross, and Dylan Beck were outstanding today on the mound."

The Mountain Lions move to 27-9 overall and are 14-6 in Conference Carolinas. The Tornado move to 10-24 overall and are 4-14 in Conference Carolinas. YHC will return to action tomorrow (April 7th) at Zell B. Miller field to face King University in the series finale.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Game One (9 Innings):
  • Young Harris would take down King in game one 3-2.
  • Drew Bray got the scoring started in the third inning, reaching home on an Ethan Stamps hit by pitch. Jeremy Begora scored the second run of the inning on an RBI groundout from Kade Smallwood.
  • King responded in the top of the fifth inning, scoring one on an RBI double by Garret Huffman.
  • King tied the game at two in the sixth inning, scoring from a throwing error committed by the Mountain Lion defense.
  • Steven Spell scored the winning run in the eighth inning, reaching home on a fielding error from King off the bat of Kade Smallwood.
  • Zach Murray would collect his sixth win of the season, pitching eight innings, recording nine strikeouts and only allowing one earned run on the day.
  • Dylan Beck picked up his seventh save, allowing zero hits and striking out two in the ninth inning.
Game Two (7 Innings):
  • The Mountain Lions beat the Tornado 6-2 in game two.
  • King got the scoring started in the second inning by way of a Levi Medford single.
  • Jace Wilson scored the first run of the game to tie it 1-1 following a sacrifice fly to left field by Jarett Ford.
  • Jeremy Begora launched a three-run home run to clear the bases in the second inning, scoring Drew Bray and Marco Colina to give Young Harris a 4-1 lead.
  • A solo home run from Truman Roper cut the deficit to 4-2 for King in the top half of the third inning.
  • Young Harris added two insurance runs in the sixth inning with Jace Wilson scoring on a wild pitch and Marco Colina scoring off a sacrifice fly from James Basham.
  • Ryan Cross picked up his second win of the season, striking out four in four innings on the mound.
  • Dylan Beck collected his eighth save of the season, allowing zero hits and striking out three over three innings.
