GREENVILLE, S.C. | Young Harris Baseball Head Coach Stephen Waggener was named Conference Carolinas Baseball Coach of the Year on Tuesday. Stephen guided the Mountain Lions to a 38-win season. Young Harris won 22 conference games, the most in program history and earned second place in their first year competing in the Conference Carolinas.

Waggener has his team poised for a run in the Conference Tournament and two games away from a 40-win season. The Mountain Lions are ranked 8th in the nation and second in the Southeast Region.

Senior Zach Murray had the following to say about Coach Waggener. "To say Coach Waggener deserved this award is an understatement. The lessons he teaches us on and off the field about winning and losing is something each and every one of us will take into the real world. Whether we win a game by 15 or lose by one, Coach Waggener takes on the approach of teaching us lessons on what to do instead of what not to do.

Murray continued, "Entering this powerhouse conference for our first year and taking 2nd place is more than deserving for coach of the year and I'm happy that I was able to pitch for him every week this year."

Senior Steven Spell talked about how Coach Waggener has helped the team.  "We wouldn't be where we are without Coach Waggener. He does a great job of keeping us motivated and focused on our goals day in and day out. When you pair that with his ability to manage a game and push the right buttons, you will have a lot of success throughout the season!"

The Mountain Lions earned the number two seed for the Conference Carolinas tournament and will play in the second round on Thursday May 2nd at 3:00 p.m. against the winner of Belmont Abbey vs King.
