Box Score YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris men's tennis captured a dominant 7-0 victory over Chowan on Senior Day. The win clinched a share of the Conference Carolinas regular season title for the Mountain Lions. The Championship is the first tennis title since Young Harris became an NCAA Division II member on September 1
st, 2014.
Young Harris hosts Barton on Monday at 11 am. The win would give the Mountain Lions the outright title.
QUOTING HEAD COACH MARCY O'CONNOR:
"It was a good win on Senior Day. With this win, the men's team clinched the 1 seed for the conference tournament. Seniors Eric, Rodrigo, and James all came away with wins, leading the team to a 7-0 win over Chowan.
O'Connor added. "The men have clinched a regular season conference title with one match left in conference play with the chance to win the outright regular season conference title."
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Mountain Lions won the doubles point with 6-3 and 6-1 victories.
- It was all Young Harris in singles. Seniors Jamie Bixby, Eric DelValle, and Rodrigo Mendoza set the pace with match wins. Bixby claimed #1 singles 6-1 and 6-3. Mendoza followed suit in line two singles, winning 6-3, 6-3. DelValle dominated line five singles 6-2, 6-1.
- Caleb McCurry, Mason Harmon, and Gregor Gottein earned match wins to complete the 7-0 shutout victory and clinch at least a share of the Conference Carolinas regular season title.
