Mountain Lions Head Home Victorious With a Win Over the Pioneers

TUSCULUM, TN. | The Mountain Lions stay on fire, picking up a 7-3 win over Tusculum University this afternoon (April 17th) in a midweek matchup. The Mountain Lions used a combination of timely hitting and executed pitching to pick up the win on the road.

QUOTING HEAD COACH STEPHEN WAGGENER:

"Today was a great team win behind strong pitching performances from Ryan Heishman and Dylan Beck."

The Mountain Lions move to 33-9 overall and are 18-6 in Conference Carolinas. The Pioneers move to 23-20 overall and are 16-11 in the South Atlantic Conference. YHC will return to action Friday (April 19th) at Zell B. Miller field for a conference matchup with Emanuel University.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  •  Young Harris tops Tusculum 7-3.
  • Marco Colina scored the first run for the Mountain Lions, reaching home on a Jarrett Ford double play in the second inning.
  • Jace Wilson made the score 2-0 in the second, scoring on a Jeremy Begora hit by pitch.
  • Tusculum responded to make the score 2-1 on an Omar Carreras single.
  • Steven Spell brought home Drew Bray on an RBI ground out to give YHC a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning.
  • Ethan Stamps hit a double to left in the fourth inning to score Jeremy Begora and make the score 4-1.
  • The Pioneers made the score 4-2 on an Omar Carreras single in the fifth inning.
  • Tusculum cut the deficit to 4-3 in the sixth inning, scoring one on a fielder's choice. 
  • A Jarrett Ford sacrifice fly to score Dallas Deas made the score 5-3 in the seventh inning.
  • Marco Colina scored on a Jace Wilson RBI single, making the score 6-3 in the seventh.
  • Jack Enrico scored the final run of the day for Young Harris, reaching home on a Steven Spell sacrifice fly to make the score 7-3 in the seventh inning.
  • Ryan Heishman got the start for the Mountain Lions, going four innings and striking out five batters.
  • Kaleb Perry earned the win for Young Harris, pitching one inning with one strikeout.
  • Dylan Beck picked up the save, going four innings, striking out four and allowing zero runs.
