YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Mountain Lions take the series opener, picking up a win over Emmanuel University this evening (April 19th) in a conference matchup. The Mountain Lions kept their bats hot to get the win, scoring sixteen runs on the day.
The Mountain Lions move to 34-9 overall and are 19-6 in Conference Carolinas. The Lions move to 27-17 overall and are 15-10 in Conference Carolinas. YHC will return to action tomorrow (April 20th) at Zell B. Miller field for a doubleheader to finish the series with Emmanuel.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Young Harris takes down Emmanuel 16-7.
- Emmanuel struck first with a solo home run in the first inning by Brock Wollin. The Lions added another run in the second inning on a solo homer from Hayden Beall to make the score 2-0.
- Jack Enrico sent a solo deep ball to right field to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second inning.
- A two RBI double from Nick Dietsch gave Emmanuel a 4-1 lead in the third inning.
- Drew Bray cut the deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the third, scoring Jace Wilson on an RBI double.
- Jeremy Begora launched a Grand Slam to give YHC a 6-4 lead in the third inning, scoring Drew Bray, Steven Spell and James Basham.
- Jace Wilson belted a three-run home run in the sixth inning to score Mark Castle and Marco Colina, giving Young Harris a 9-4 lead.
- Steven Spell brought home Drew Bray on an RBI single before later scoring on a Marco Colina hit by pitch to give the Mountain Lions an 11-4 lead.
- Jeremy Begora scored on a Mark Castle walk to make the score 12-4 heading into the seventh inning.
- Emmanuel cut the lead to 12-6 in the seventh, scoring one on an RBI double and another on an RBI single.
- A Thomas Collins single cut the deficit to 12-7 for Emmanuel in the eighth inning.
- Dallas Deas made the score 13-7 in the eighth, reaching home on a passed ball.
- James Basham launched a three-run shot to score Jace Wilson and Marco Colina, giving Young Harris a 16-7 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning.
- Zach Murray got the start and the win for the Mountain Lions, going seven innings and striking out eight.
- Cole Edwards finished the game for YHC, pitching two innings and striking out four.
