Mountain Lions Edge Eagles in Mid-Week Matchup

JEFFERSON CITY, TN. | Young Harris took care of business again, this time against SAC opponent Carson-Newman, with a final score of 7-4. Jack Enrico and Kade Smallwood's big swings put the Mountain Lions on top of the Eagles in today's mid-week game.
 
QUOTING HEAD COACH STEPHEN WAGGENER:
"I am very proud of our guys today as they secured a win against a strong regional opponent. Colby Williams gave us a quality start again, getting us through five innings. It took us a little while to get going offensively, but our guys persevered and put together great at bats through the final four innings."
 
The Mountain Lions advance to 32-9 overall and are 18-6 in Conference Carolinas. The Eagles move to 22-18 overall and are 15-9 in the SAC. YHC will face Emmanuel University at home in a three-game series this weekend (Apr 19th/20th). The Young Harris Baseball seniors will be recognized in game one on Saturday (Apr 20th).
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Jarrett Ford gave Young Harris a 1-0 lead in the second inning with an RBI double.
  • After a scoreless third and fourth, Carson-Newman jumped ahead in the fifth. A couple of Eagle base hits made the score 3-1.
  • Jeremy Begora put the bat on the ball in fifth as well, tying the game at three. He singled through the left side to score Jace Wilson.
  • Jack Enrico (2-4) hit the long ball in the seventh to tack on two Mountain Lion runs. The score was 5-3 in favor of YHC.
  • A throwing error by Young Harris led to an unearned run for the Eagles in the eighth. Carson-Newman trailed by one.
  • Putting the stamp on the game, Kade Smallwood homered to right, and Drew Bray doubled for the final two runs for Young Harris.
  • Brady Caloway picked up the win and Ryan Heishman finished with the save.

  • The Mountain Lions hit the road for a game against Tusculum on Wednesday.
