BELMONT, N.C. | Young Harris College vanquished Belmont Abbey in four sets, 3-1 on Friday night for their first road win of the season and second victory of the week. YHC took set one in extras 28-26, fell 27-25 in the second set, then turned up the intensity and took sets three and four (25-21, 25-20) to close out the match.
Abby Schirm (11),
Nicole Klucharich (10), and
Lily Hidalgo (10) combined for 31 kills.
Sophie Bearden had a great game, posting a team-high seven total blocks to go with five kills and nine points.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Mountain Lions erased a seven-point deficit to win the first set. Two kills from Abby Schirm followed by two service aces from Lyza Thigpen brought the Mountain Lions within three points, 14-11. Schirm and Shelby Mullins found the hardwood, evening the score at 23. Next, Lily Hidalgo connected on a swing to put YHC up 24-23. Young Harris scored three in a row to close out the set. Klucharich got a kill, Hidalgo and Bearden recorded a block, and Lexie Martin capped it off with a service ace.
- Belmont Abbey rallied for the 27-25 second set victory. In set three, Young Harris used two scoring runs to prevail 25-21. Early in the set, the Purple and White went on a 5-1 run and then backed that up with a 7-1 run that resulted in the 15-7 lead.
- Up 2-1, the Mountain Lions dug deep in set four to close out the match and secure their first road win of the season. Thigpen found Hidalgo for the kill and the early 7-2 lead. Bearden's kill gave Young Harris the 18-14 advantage. YHC scored six of the final seven points to claim the victory.
- Sophie Bearden controlled the middle and finished the match with a team-high seven total blocks.
- Abby Schirm (11), Nicole Klucharich (10), and Lily Hidalgo (10) combined for 31 kills.
- Chase Vaigneur tallied four service aces, Lyza Thigpen had 38 assists, and Joha Bernis led the team in digs with 19.
- Belmont Abbey's Tyler Case posted a game-high 17 kills and Lola Sultenfuss wasn't far behind with 15.
