YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris Volleyball honored its three seniors Saturday afternoon and battled hard against North Greenville University, ultimately falling in four sets (3-1) at The Harp Recreation & Commencement Center.
The Mountain Lions dropped the first two sets but showed resilience in the third, hitting .333, with resilience at the net. Abby Schirm led the offense with 17 kills and 14 digs, while Hannah Depp added 10 kills and three service aces.
Young Harris moves to 8-19 overall and 5-14 in Conference Carolinas play. The Trailblazers of North Greenville improved to 17-10 overall and 12-7 in the conference.
Before the match, Young Harris celebrated its senior class — three student-athletes who stand as mentors for their fellow teammates, leaving a lasting impression.
Mallory Ivey, a middle hitter from Saint Mary's, Georgia, was recognized for her leadership and heart for the team. As a double major in History and Public Policy and Law, Mallory plans to begin her career with the GBI and eventually serve in Homeland Security. Her commitment has shaped the culture of YHC Volleyball, and she'll be remembered for her strength on and off the court.
Abby Schirm, an outside hitter from Stone Mountain, Georgia, has been a cornerstone of the program for four years. Ranked fifth in Division II in kills this season, Abby has totaled over 600 career kills and nearly 500 digs. She plans to pursue a career in chemistry and a master's degree. Her leadership and consistency have defined her time at YHC.
Rylee DeSimone, an opposite hitter from Chino, California, brought energy and competitive spirit to the team over the past two years. She plans to enter the M.A.T. program to become a high school history teacher and volleyball coach. Rylee's passion for the game and her teammates has helped build a culture of hard work within the program.
