GREENWOOD, S.C. | Lucas Martino drove in five runs as Lander University defeated Young Harris College 11-5 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday (April 21) evening at Dolny Stadium.
The Bearcats improved to 20-24 overall and to 13-12 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions, who are ranked No. 17 in the Collegiate Baseball poll and No. 11 in the NCBWA poll, saw their eight-game winning streak snapped as they fell to 33-12 and 21-7. Game two of the three-game series is at 2 p.m. Saturday (April 22).
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Young Harris jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Steven Spell drove in the first run on a single to left field, while Marco Colina added an RBI double.
- It would stay that way until Lander scored five times in the fifth inning.Â
- The Bearcats built their lead up to 11-2 after eight innings, before the Mountain Lions put together three runs in the top of the ninth. Jackson Kemp hit his ninth homer of the season - a solo shot to left field. Ethan Underwood contributed an RBI double to left and Jarrett Ford added an run-scoring single through the right side.
- Nate Lamb (7-1) absorbed his first loss of the season.Â
- The Mountain Lions posted 11 hits in the game, with the top three hitters in the lineup collecting seven of them. Spell had three hits, while Underwood and Ford had two apiece.
