YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Lee University scored seven of the final nine goals to hold off Young Harris College 22-15 in a Gulf South Conference women's lacrosse match Wednesday (April 12) afternoon at the YHC Soccer Field.
The Flames improved to 6-8 overall and to 1-2 in the GSC, while the Mountain Lions slipped to 6-0 and 1-3. Young Harris returns to action for its final home match of the season next Wednesday (April 19) with a 4 p.m. GSC match against Lander University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Lee scored five unanswered goals late in the first quarter and in the opening minute of the second quarter to take a 7-2 lead.
- The Mountain Lions scored four goals midway through the third quarter to pull within two goals at 15-13 after Ashlyn Fraley scored with 2:08 left in the period.
- The Flames then broke the match open by scoring seven of the next eight goals to open up a 22-14 lead.
- Fraley led the Mountain Lions with five goals, while Ella Hancock, Ruthie Mandell, Ally Cattoni and Morgan Lewis each put two in the back of the net. Mary Troyer and Belle Hardwick each scored once.
- Hancock and Mandell had two assists, while Cattoni, Lewis and Troyer has one apiece.
- YHC outshot Lee 44-38 and held a 21-13 edge in ground balls. Lee won 26 of the 41 draw controls in the match.
- Lee converted 8-of-9 of its free-position shots.
- Cattoni won five draw controls, while Hancock and Troyer claimed three each.
- Hancock and Gwenyth Gibbons each scooped up four ground balls.
- Hardwick and Troyer each registered two caused turnovers.
- Maddy Meyers led the Mountain Lions with five saves in goal, while Abbie Gallagher had three and McKenna Graf added two.
