YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Jeremy Begora hit two home runs and drove in seven as the Young Harris College baseball team defeated No. 8 Columbus State University 13-1 in seven innings on a windy Saturday (April 1) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Mountain Lions, who collected 18 hits, improved to 24-10 overall and 14-6 in the Peach Belt Conference, while the Cougars slipped to 24-8 and 11-6. The final game of the weekend series is set for 1 p.m. Sunday (April 2).
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Begora gave YHC a 1-0 lead in the first on a single through the left side, while Rome Wallace doubled the lead with a single through the right side.
- Columbus State got its lone run in the top of the second before Young Harris scored three on Begora's homer through a 22-mile per hour win to center field.
- Begora added another three-run homer an inning later - this time to left field - to highlight a seven-run third inning as Young Harris opened up a 12-1 lead. It was Begora's team-leading ninth home run of the season.
- Jarrett Ford, Steven Spell and Drew Bray each had RBI singles in the third as YHC had eight hits in the inning.
- Young Harris scored its final run on a sixth inning RBI double from Ethan Underwood.
- Every starter in the YHC lineup had at least one hit and seven of them had multiple hits. Ford and Begora led the way with three hits, while Underwood, Spell, Marco Colina, Bray and Jace Wilson tallied two each.
- The Mountain Lions banged out seven extra-base hits. Colina had two doubles, while Wilson and James Basham each had one.
- Zach Murray (4-2) tossed the complete game for the Mountain Lions as he scattered five hits and six walks, while striking out seven.
