No. 30 Mountain Lions sweep doubleheader from Georgia College

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College swept a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader from Georgia College & State University Saturday (March 4) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.

The 30th-ranked Mountain Lions improved to 13-5 overall and to 6-2 in the PBC after defeating the Bobcats by scores of 14-5 and 6-2. GCSU fell to 3-11 and 2-3. The teams wrap up the weekend series with a 1 p.m. game Sunday (March 5).

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

GAME 1
  • Georgia College jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Mountain Lions scored 10 runs in the bottom of the third.
  • The Mountain Lions had six hits in the third and took advantage of three Bobcat miscues.
  • Ethan Underwood drove in two runs, while Marco Colina, Jackson Kemp, James Basham each drove in a run in the inning.
  • YHC added four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Basham drove in two of the runs on a single down the right side.
  • Basham led the Mountain Lions with three hits, while Kemp added two more as YHC collected 10 hits.
  • Nate Lamb (4-0) earned the win with five innings and four strikeouts.
GAME 2
  • Zach Murray (1-2) earned the complete-game victory as he scattered six hits. He struck out eight while walking no one.
  • The Mountain Lions opened up a 4-0 lead with four runs in the second inning. Basham had a two-run homer and the Mountain Lions took advantage of a GCSU error to score two unearned runs.
  • Colina led off the seventh with a home run to left field for his fourth long ball of the year, Steven Spell added an RBI double to left.
  • Spell led YHC with three hits, while Kemp had two more.
