AIKEN, S.C. | Young Harris College and No. 18 University of South Carolina-Aiken split a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday (March 25) evening at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
The Mountain Lions won the opener 12-3 before the Pacers rallied in the nightcap to win 4-3. Young Harris improved to 21-10 overall and to 12-6 in the PBC, while the Pacers fell to 20-10 and 12-3. Young Harris returns to action Tuesday (March 28) when they host Southern Wesleyan University at Zell B. Miller Field.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Game 1
- Steven Spell gave YHC a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the first.
- Spell added an RBI double in the third and Jeremy Begora drove in another on a single to give YHC a 3-0 lead.
- Jarrett Ford tripled home two runs in the sixth as YHC expanded its lead to 5-2.
- The Mountain Lions broke the game open with three runs in the seventh. Spell contributed his third RBI double while Rome Wallace drove in another run on a ground out.
- Ford drove in two runs with a ninth-inning single, while Jayden Carbonell-Smith added a RBI single. James Basham closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
- Spell and Begora each collected three hits as YHC had 12 total. Ford added two hits.
- Ford drove in four runs, while Spell knocked in three more.
- Zach Murray (3-2) struck out a career-high 10 over seven innings.
Game 2
- YHC took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI single by Ethan Underwood.
- The Mountain Lions added two more runs in the sixth inning on back-to-back run scoring singles from Wallace and Drew Bray.
- Brady Caloway (3-2) earned the loss in relief.
