AIKEN, S.C. | Young Harris College upended No. 18 University of South Carolina-Aiken 10-2 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday (March 24) evening at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
The Mountain Lions improved to 20-9 overall and to 11-5 in the Peach Belt, while the Pacers fell to 19-9 and 11-2. The two teams will face off in their game two Saturday (March 25) at 3 p.m.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Ethan Underwood hit the first pitch of the game for his second homer of the season to give YHC a 1-0 lead.
- After USC Aiken tied the game at 1 in the bottom of the first, YHC took a 3-1 lead in the second on a two-run homer by Drew Bray. It was his third on the season.
- The Pacers got a run back in the fifth, but the Mountain Lions erupted for four runs in the sixth inning to open a 7-2 lead. Steven Spell was hit by a pitch, Rome Wallace singled and Bray walked to load the bases before Jarrett Ford cleared them on a double to left-center field. Ford later scored on one of three USC Aiken errors.
- YHC added two more runs in the eighth on RBI from Ford and Underwood.
- The Mountain Lions closed out the scoring as Bray singled up the middle for the final run in the ninth.Â
- Underwood collected four of the 11 YHC hits. Wallace and Bray had two hits apiece.
- Nate Lamb (6-0) set a career high with 13 strikeouts in six innings. He scattered seven hits and only walked one.
- Dylan Beck earned his fifth save of the season as tossed the final three scoreless innings for YHC.
