YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Ali Van Der Ziel scored with two minutes left in overtime to give Lincoln Memorial University an 18-17 victory over Young Harris College Wednesday (March 15) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Railsplitters improved to 4-5, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-5. YHC returns to action March 25 when they host Palm Beach Atlantic University in a 1 p.m. home match.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The Mountain Lions trailed 16-10 entering the final quarter before they outscored LMU 7-1 over the final 15 minutes to send the game into extra time.
- YHC scored three goals in the final 2:41 of regulation to tie the game at 17. Ella Hancock scored the game-tying goal with 30 seconds left in regulation for the Mountain Lions.
- Hancock led the Mountain Lions with five goals, while Ally Cattoni and Ashlyn had three apiece. Kinsley Purser, Ruthie Mandell, Belle Hardwick, Emily Flynt, Felisse Richard and Mary Troyer each found the back of the net.
- Hancock added three assists, while Cattoni and Purser distributed two each. Hardwick, Morgan Lewis, Mandell, and Parker Vaughan had one each.
- YHC outshot the Railsplitters 41-28, while the Mountain Lions held a 27-22 margin in ground balls and 24-14 edge in draw controls.
- Purser won seven draw controls, while Hancock collected six and Flynt had four.
- Purser corralled six ground balls, while Mandell had four.
- Hardwick and Purser each caused three turnovers.
- Abbie Gallagher had six saves, while Maddy Meyers had three in goal for YHC.Â
