YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Ella Howlin scored on a free-position shot as time expired in overtime to give Palm Beach Atlantic University a 14-13 women's lacrosse decision over Young Harris College Saturday (March 25) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Sailfish improved to 3-5, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-6 after their second consecutive overtime loss. YHC will begin Gulf South Conference play Wednesday with a 4 p.m. Central time match in Huntsville, Alabama, against the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Ashlyn Fraley and Morgan Lewis led the Mountain Lions with four goals each, while Ally Cattoni had two. Ella Hancock, Ruthie Mandell and Belle Hardwick each found the back of the net once.
- Hancock collected three assists, while Hardwick, Mandell and Kinsley Purser had two apiece., Mary Troyer posted an assist.
- PBAU opened up a 13-9 lead with 12:46 left in the fourth quarter, but the Mountain Lions scored four unanswered goals to knot the match at 13. Fraley and Lewis each accounted for two goals during that stretch with Lewis forcing overtime with her goal with 71 seconds left in regulation.
- The shots in the match were tied at 32, while the Mountain Lions held a 26-20 edge in ground balls and PBAUÂ won 16 of the 31 draw controls.
- Hancock claimed three draw controls, while Emily Flynt, Purser, Troyer and Hardwick had two each.
- Suzanne Moore posted four ground balls, while Mandell and Lewis each corralled three.
- Purser also caused three turnovers, while Troyer and Felisse Richard had two apiece.
- Abbie Gallagher had nine saves in 48 minutes in goal, while Maddy Meyers had three.
