No. 30 Mountain Lions uses the long ball to sweep Union (Tenn.)

JACKSON, Tenn. | Young Harris College hit six home runs as the 30th-ranked Mountain Lions swept a baseball doubleheader from Union (Tenn.) University Saturday (Feb. 4) afternoon at Fesmire Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 2-0 after posting 4-2 and 17-6 wins, while the Bulldogs fell to 0-2. The teams wrap up the series with a noon Central time contest Sunday (Feb. 5).

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

GAME 1
  • Young Harris took a 3-0 lead in the fourth. Ethan Underwood reached on a walk and Rome Wallace followed with a two-run homer to right center. 
  • Jeremy Begora double down the right field line and scored on Drew Bray's single.
  • The Mountain Lions scored their final run in the ninth. Bray led off with a walk and layer scored on Marco Colina's single to left-center field.
  • Nate Lamb (1-0) earned the win with one-hit shutout baseball over five innings. He also recorded six strikeouts. 
  • Brady Caloway earned his first save of the campaign he pitched the final four innings, striking out two.
  • Begora had two hits for YHC.
GAME 2
  • The Mountain Lions spotted Union a 6-0 lead after the first inning, but YHC scored in every inning after that other than the third inning.
  • YHC had 12 hits in the nightcap, including five homers, a triple and two doubles.
  • Steven Spell led off the second with a walk and scored on Ethan Stamps' double to left-center field.
  • Begora was hit by a pitch in the fourth and scored on Jace Wilson's home run to right.
  • Spell walked in the fourth and came around on Begora's long ball to left field that tied the game at 6.
  • YHC took the lead at 9-6 in the sixth as Colina tripled to left-center field to score two and Colina came around on an Underwood single up the middle.
  • The Mountain Lions broke the game open with eight runs in the seventh. Colina had a three-run homer, Spell contributed a two-run double and Dallas Deas added a three-run homer.
  • Carter Davies (1-0) earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief.
  • Colina had three hits, while Wilson had two more. Colina drove in five runs, while Deas added three more RBI.
